SENIOR INTERNSHIP Presentation
Junior Class Students and Parents
Juniors who are interested in applying for the Senior Internship Program (formerly Co-op) and their parents should be aware that a presentation to the entire junior class will be taking place on December 1st this year.

Students should do a self-assessment to better determine what area they might want to apply for.
1.    What are my interests?   What do I really enjoy doing?
2.    What is my personality?  Do I like working with other people or by myself?  What are my abilities or talents?
3.    What are my skills?  What tasks have I learned to perform well?
4.    What are my work-related values?  What is important to me in my work?

Students can also use the Interest Profiler assessment in WISCareers (http://wiscareers.wisc.edu) to create a list of occupations that fit their skills and interest.  Most students at Menomonie High School have logged on and used this website in one or more classes.  Students can access their account from any Internet ready computer.  If a student is not sure they created an account, or cannot remember their access codes, they should contact a guidance counselor or the School-to-Careers Office.  Contact one of the people listed below if you have other questions.

As technological advances take us into a global economy, we see a change in the nature of work and the types of jobs available. Laptop computers, wireless networks, and online transactions have become commonplace. Today’s workplace demands employability skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a diverse population, and the desire to be a lifelong learner. Technical skills are also becoming more important at an earlier age.

Business and Marketing courses allow students to have an understanding of all parts of the business world from entrepreneurship to leadership. These courses will enhance the students’ knowledge of our global economy and provide the skills needed for our rapidly changing technology regardless of whether they continue to postsecondary education or enter the world of work. A variety of classes enhance students’ everyday life as well as skills taken to the workplace.

The department has advanced standing articulation agreements in place with the Wisconsin Technical College System (specifically Chippewa Valley Technical College) - refer to page 4.  Courses with Advanced Standing agreements are designated with – AS following the class title.  Interested students/parents should contact a business/marketing instructor for more information.
